What is on his Agenda?

NAACP addresses variety of issues at Southeast Region Convention - News14.com

I just love how folks take things out of context for their own agenda!

What the 15th Amendment actually states is: The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude.

All of the people standing in the front row of the image, including Barber, are holding flyers that read THIS IS MY VOTE, which is the NAACP's campaign slogan to get voters to the polls. And damnitalltohell, it is your vote and my vote! But who the hell are you? I know who I am (most of the time). But I don't know you, and you don't know me. When was the last time you went to the polls to vote and knew everyone working at the polls? Hell. When was the last time you lived on a street and knew everyone on that street? How about just the block of the street that you lived on?

How does requiring EVERYONE to present proof of identity fall under Barber's complaint that U.S. voter laws "suppress minority representation at the polls"? We live in an age when you must show proof of identification for just about everything! Even Granny, who does everything as a cash transaction, has to have photo identification to get the cash. When the amendment was written and ratified in 1870 (142 years ago, people!), voting was on a small scale; everybody knew everybody that would be voting at that particular poll. We no longer live in that world. No one from that world could have foreseen this one, one of the reasons there is a system in place to make changes to the Constitution, as in the 15th Amendment! No one from that world could have foreseen Barber presenting an abridged version of the 15th Amendment for his own agenda.

How does presenting proof of who you are take away My vote? Seriously? It protects My's vote. No one can go in claiming to be My who isn't My. Those who have been voting as My who are really Joe Blow, now have to take it a step further and get ID with My's name, which they probably already possess.

How is "voter ID, the attempts to scale back Sunday voting, try to take same-day registration and move it back, try to create third party registration...taking our democracy backwards"? How does this "suppress minority representation at the polls"?

Barber really needs to get over his conspiracy theory crap. It's not ALWAYS about race! There may well be an issue with "race-based redistricting plans," but I have no idea how districting works. If it were up to me, I'd create a grid: "a pattern of regularly spaced horizontal and vertical lines" on the map, with each district falling where it may.

What is "taking our democracy backwards" is not the "Race Issue," but the people who assume it is always a race issue. Sometimes it's what's happening in her vagina or who's fucking who, both of which is no body's business but the parties involved. Sometimes it's a chicken-shit with a gun and too much self-appointed authority who would rather kill you than admit he's about to piss his pants.

The mission of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is to ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate race-based discrimination.

Where are your priorities, Barber? What is your actual agenda? It most certainly can't be moving democracy forward when your words and actions continue to divide its people. All of its people, even those you claim to represent.

Quote for the day: You know, right before he was killed he came down to Selma and said some pretty passionate things against me, and that surprised me because after all it was my territory there. But afterwards he took my wife aside, and said he thought he could help me more by attacking me than praising me. He thought it would make it easier for me in the long run. Rev. 1. Your are absolutely right. I am often confused by the rush to make everything a "Race Issue," particularly when there are so many true race issues out there.
